Do you know where the Himalayas are located? The Himalayas, also known as "The Roof of the World,” is a large mountain range that straddles Pakistan, China (Tibet), India, Nepal, and Bhutan. Everest, the world's highest mountain, is in the Himalayas. The Himalayas are home to 8,000-meter peaks (Eight thousanders), and there is the only plaec where 8000-meter peaks exist. In this article, we will create a map of the Himalayas, list location of each peaks in each countries, and provide an overview of each peak. The purpose of this article is to provide a simple and easy-to-understand overview of the Himalayas for those who are interested in the Himalayas and those who like to climb mountains.

The Pakistani part of the Himalayas is called the Karakoram Range. The meaning of Karakoram is “black soil. The Sanskrit name is also “Black Peak (Krishna Giri). The Karakoram Range hosts the Baltoro Glacier, creating a rugged, frozen landscape. This is a great place for adventure.

K2

K2, Himalayan Mountain

Altitude: 8611m

Locally as know as Gauri Shah, meaning "King of the Mountains". It is the highest mountain in Pakistan and the second highest in the world. It was first climbed by an Italian climber in 1954. k2 is one of the most difficult to climb, with a 25% mortality rate.

Nanga Parbat

Nanga Parbat, Himalayan Mountain

Altitude: 8126m

Both in Hindi, "Nanga" means nakedand and "Parbat" means mountain. Like k2, it is a very difficult and dangerous mountain to climb, and has been nicknamed “The Killer” due to the large number of fatalities that have occurred here in the past. In addition, there have been attacks by the Taliban at the base camp, and foreign climbers have lost their lives.

Gasherbrum I

Altitude: 8080m

One of the peaks of the Gasherbrum range which is in the Karakoram Range. Gasherbrum means“sunlit wall". Imagining the peaks as a huge wall and sunlight shines on it.

Gasherbrum II

Altitude: 8080m

Broad Peak

Broad Peak, Himalayan Mountain

Altitude: 8051m

Also known as K3. As the name implies, it is a broad shaped peak. It is beautiful.

Nun Kun

Altitude: 7135m

A massif consisting of Nun and Kun peaks in Zanskar. such martial and dynamic shape. beautiful ! It was first climbed by an Italian climber in 1913.

Nanda Devi

Nanda Devi, Himalayan Mountain

Altitude: 7816m

"Nanda" means joy in Sanskrit and "Devi" means goddess. Nanda Devi is listed in UNESCWorld Heritage Site. Due to Hindus believes the mountain is sacred, the mountain has been off-limits since 1983.

Trisul

Altitude: 7120m

The mountain body consists of three main peaks, identified as Trisul 1, Trisul 2, and Trisul 3, respectively.

Kamet

Altitude: 7756m

In India, it is called Nilgiri Parbat. Nil means “blue” and giri means“triangle shape of roof". Parbat means “mountain". It does look like a blue roof.

Thalay Sagar

Altitude: 6904m

The first ascent was made by a combined American and British team in 1979.

The Himapalas in Nepal has a concentration of particularly high peaks and attracts trekkers from all over the world. Not only Everest, but also spectacular trails such as Annapurna and Manaslu are very popular.

Saipal

Altitude: 7031m

First climbed by Japanese mountaineer Katsutoshi Hirabayashi in 1963, it is the highest mountain on the western edge of Nepal.

Gurla Mandhata

Altitude: 7694m

It looks graceful and solemn from the Tibetan Plateau side. By looking at this mountain appearance, It is somewhat understandable that how people imagined holyness in mountains.

Kailash

It is a giant mountain with a feature of a crack in the flat mountain surface. It is an independent mountain that is considered sacred by Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, and Jainism. In Hinduism. In hindu, it is believed to be the home of Hindu lord Shiva.

Gangapurna

Altitude: 7455m

The ridge line of this mountain is very beautiful. The slope that slides down to the valley is impressive.

Machapuchare

Machapuchare, Himalayan Mountain

Altitude: 6993m

It is a very beautiful triangular shaped mountain which can be seen from the tourist resort city of Pokhara.

Annapurna

Altitude: 8091m

This is a huge mountain located in North of Pokhara. The name sounds beautiful and is easy to remember. Its gigantic size of mountain body paralyze our sense of scaling.

Manaslu Pinacle

Altitude: 8156m

It is a mountain with a distinctive appearance with two peaks. Its towering majestic figure shows how people in the past imagined mysterious stories in the mountain.

Dhaulagiri

Altitude: 8167m

This massif is located in North of Pokhara, next to Annapurna. This one is also so massive in size.

Nemjung

Altitude: 7140m

It was first climbed in 1983 by a joint Nepalese and Japanese team.

Ganesh Himal

Yangra

Altitude: 7422m

This is the highest peak in the Ganesh massif. It is the snow-capped white mountain in the center of the photo.

Gaurishankar

Altitude: 7134m

It is the second highest peak in the Ganesh massif of the Rolwaling Himal.

Melungtse

Altitude: 7181m

This is the highest peak in the Rolwaling mountain range. Gaurishankar is on the left in the photo, Melungtse is on the right.

Everest

It is the highest mountain in the world. It is called Sagarmatha in Nepal and Chomolungma in Tibet.

Lhotse

Lhotse, Himalayan Mountain

Altitude: 8516m

It is the fourth highest mountain in the world located near Everest. The mountain's surface is so rough.

Makalu

Altitude: 8481m

It is located in Makalu Barun National Park, 22 km east of Everest.

Langtang Lirung

Altitude: 7227m

The peak on the left is Lantang Lirung and the right is Kangshung. There are glaciers in the valley on the mountain face. These are the Lirung Glacier and the Kangshung Glacier.

Chamlang

Altitude: 7319m

Located in the Mahalangul Himal area, near Makalu.

Dorje Lhakpa

Altitude: 6966m

It is located east of Langtang National Park and is visible from Kathmandu on clear days. A name Dorje or Lhakpa is often used in the name of the Sherpa tribe as well.

Mount Ama Dabla

Altitude: 6812m

Shishapangma

Shishapangma, Himalayan Mountain

Altitude: 8027m

The Nepalese name for this mountain is Gosainthang. It is located in 5km away place from Nepal on the Tibetan side.

Cho Oyu

Altitude: 8201m

It is located 20 km west of Everest. It straddles the border between Nepal and China.

Kangchenjunga

Altitude: 8586m

It means “five snowy treasures” in Tibetan, and is located on the border between Nepal and India. It stretches horizontally and is the third tallest mountain in the world, so it is tremendously huge. It is pronounced “Kang-chen-jan-ga” by the locals.

Jongsong Peak

Altitude: 7462m

It is located in 20km north of Kangchenjunga. This is the point where the borders of Nepal, India and China converge.

Altitude: 7207m

It is located 180km from Kangchenjunga, on the China-Bhutan border.

Kula Kangri

Altitude: 7538m

The first ascent was achieved by a joint Japanese-Chinese team in 1986.

Jomolhari

Altitude: 7326m

This sacred mountain is sometimes called the "bride of Kangchenjunga". It straddles the border between China and Bhutan.

Gangkhar Puensum

Altitude: 7570m

Gori Chen
